I am reading more and more about the risk truckers, car haulers, and transportation professionals take...just by what they eat. I saw a must read article in of all places, MPRnews.com, about the number of truckers who were overweight and obese:

86% of car haulers, truckers, etc are overweight

66% of car haulers, truckers, etc are obese

Emergency Diesel Reserves To Be Released

A Little Fuel Goes A Long Way

In the interest of being proactive the Federal Government is releasing emergency diesel reserves to the Northeast. Increasing fuel supplies will help bring stability to the region by:

• Helping to prevent a runup in commodity prices or price gouging on fuel
• Helping to stabilize transportation in the Northeast
• Reducing strain on fuel supplies in other regions

Hopefully this will accelerate efforts to restabilize the Northeast after the aftermath of Sandy.

Another Step Forward For Alternate Energy Trucks?

Is This A Giant Leap In Alternate Energy Trucks and Car Haulers....Or Just Another Small Step?

In Fleetowner magazine Ecodual corporation has the EPA approval to put dual fuel systems in 29 different Cummins engines. Ecodual also has plans to release dual fuel systems for Paccar, Detroit Diesel, and Caterpillar engines

Sounds exciting. Is this the giant leap we have been waiting for that moves alternate energy as a majority play in the heavy duty truck market. One of the key signs of a product going mass market is when it begins to get distributed on a mass scale, thus its move into multiple types of engines.

I am not totally sold that this is that moment. I have not heard a lot of buzz about these conversion kits and how they are doing, both in getting people to buy them and then their performance on the road. Hopefully the next 12 to 24 months will give us that answer.

Trucker Shortage Could Be Solved..

A rash of trucker shortage articles has hit the news lately..again...for the second, third, fourth time etc.  They say the same thing:

• There are not enough truckers to fill the positions
• Companies are looking
• The training programs are not training enough to fill them
• The trucker fleet is aging
• The government is forcing lots of drivers out
• Many younger candidates and employees do not want to be on the road for weeks at a time
• What do we do? 

This is a bunch of hogwash.

It is very simple what happens in just about EVERY other industry when people won't take a job

the wages go up.....way up...way way up.

So now "Joe" high school realizes he can earn 70,000, 80,000, 90,000 in a relatively short time..and the time on the road trucking doesn't seem that bad. As wages go up,  the 'negatives' of a job become much more bearable

And in capitalism, when lots of people take a job with high wages, the wages stabilize..problem solved

Socialism offers stale suppressed wages with no incentives...
